Looking for cheap exercise equipment to buy this holiday season? You already own it! It’s your body. There are lots of exercises you can do to increase your fitness that don’t require any equipment at all.
But if you do want to add some cheap equipment to your routine, let’s start with some basics that give you a big bang for your buck and then add on from there.
Calisthenics – $0 to $40 if you want to invest in an exercise mat. Old fashioned body weight exercises are guaranteed to work since your body is forced to lose pounds as it pushes excess weight around.
Resistance Bands – from $10 to $50. The more expensive ones will usually come with an instructional DVD. They are available in 3 different strengths: light, medium and heavy and work your upper and lower body just like the expensive weight machines in your local gym.
Ankle Weights - A set costs $20 or less. You can do a whole body workout or tome your muscles as you wear them around your house. Do leg exercises while your watching TV.
Swiss Ball – $20 to $50 depending on the size. Use it for core training like sit ups, stretches or more explosive athletic exercises. It’s versatility causes some people to call it the “swiss army knife of fitness”.
Kettleballs – $30 to $150 depending on the weight. Build strength, endurance and flexibility with this piece of equipment that some people say is like “calisthenics on steroids”.
If you’re going to engage in a new fitness routine in the new year, make sure you check with your doctor before you start. Also, start slowly – 10 minutes a day and then build from there until you reach 30. This way, you’ll avoid injuries and you won’t get discouraged early in the game.

Great info on exercising without spending a lot of money. I’ve been a walker all my life and now I use a little pedometer I got for free to keep track of my steps. Very economical!
