Fast, Healthy Snack Foods

Fast and healthy snack food doesn’t have to be boring. Celery and low fat cream cheese used to be the only healthy snack food you could eat when what you really wanted was chips and cookies.

Now, both of those items can be included on your healthy menu.

Health magazine (May 2006 issue) has compiled a list of healthy snack food that you can find in your local grocery store or online.

All are tasty and healthy versions of the snack food you like to eat but have made you gain weight in the past. Some items are more difficult to find than others so some web site addresses are included. I’ve attempted to convert nutritional info to weight watcher point values for most of the products but some items don’t have all the info on their web sites.

100% whole grain Chips Ahoy cookies: 3 weight watcher points; 2 grams of fiber and 120 calories per serving.

Kettle Brand Bakes Hickory Honey BBQ : 2 ww points; 3 grams of fat and 120 calories per serving.

Sahale Snacks Valdosta Blend A combination of pecans, dried cranberries, orange zest and a dash of black pepper has 14 grams of heart-healthy fat per serving.

Snyders of Hanover Eat Smart Malt Vinegar and Sea Salt Café Fries
: 150 calories, 7 grams of fat and no trans fat per 1 ounce serving. Other flavors available;

Healthy Snack Foods in Your Fridge

Al Fresco All Natural Country Style Breakfast Chicken Sausage 1 weight watcher point, 60 calories, 2.5 fat grams per link.

Horizon Organic, Organic Colby Cheese Sticks; 110 calories and 9 grams of per serving but made with no hormones or antibiotics.

Frozen healthy snack food

Breads and Breakfast Foods

Usually breads and breakfast foods are not known as healthy snack foods but this list gives a few options to try that may surprise you. Make sure you check sugar content when a food label says “fat-free” or “low fat”…sometimes they’ll take out the fat but put in more sugar so that it still tastes good. Sugar turns to fat if you eat to much!
