Sharing Weight Loss Motivation Tips
Weight loss motivation…how do you get it? Does it usually hit you around December 26th that it’s time to lose weight? Or maybe it’s bathing suit season that makes you get out the diet books. Are you a glutton for punishment and need to watch Jillian on Biggest Loser to get moving? Or is it your doctor who delivers the bad news that you need to lose fat for health reasons.
We all have our moments where we realize that it’s time to lose weight. And we get all fired up for the first week or two until we get tired of eating salads and going to the gym. It’s discouraging when you invest so much time in exercise and eating right only to see a half pound come off the scale.
Believe me, I totally understand your frustration with getting motivated because I’ve been there!
Since I’ve struggled a lot with weight loss motivation, I’ve gathered a few tips to help you…and me…when the weight loss journey gets tough.
Make smaller weight loss goals and plan a celebration when you achieve it. Instead of making a huge goal that will take you months to reach, break it up into smaller goals of 5 pounds and celebrate with something special when you reach it. Some suggestions are a manicure or pedicure, or buy a new shade of eye shadow or lipstick. Personally, a trip to Sephora is like a trip to the candy store for me but a lot less fattening!
Record what you’re eating and why. When you really start to examine what you’re eating and why, you’ll be able to create strategies that work to stop yourself the next time your tempted to cheat. BONUS: When you write down the good stuff that you’re eating, don’t forget to say why! It’s positive reinforcement because you’ll be inspired to keep your goals in mind as you do the right thing.
Join a weight loss support group. Studies have shown that being part of a weight loss support group, whether it’s online or in person, will make it more likely that you’ll reach your weight loss goals. Accountability and the need for encouragement are 2 of the reasons why support is so important. This component is a big part of the Weight Watchers and Jenny Craig success stories.
Now, it’s your turn. Do you have any weight loss motivation tips to share? I’d love to hear from you! Please submit your comments below.
