You can lose fat, build muscle, and look great with strength training. Better than cardiovascular exerscise, it helps you lose fat and build muscle…the kind that gives you a sleek and toned look and minimizes flab.

Strength training helps you lose fat by building muscle in your body…which is the engine that burns the fat on your body. The more muscle you have, the more calories your body burns.

It is also a more efficient way to burn fat than cardiovascular or aerobic exercise because once you build your muscle, your body will burn fat even while you are just sitting around. With aerobic exercise, fat-burning only happens when you are actually doing the exercise.

Muscle vs. Fat
When you first start strength training, you might be a little frustrated because you could gain weight. A lot of people believe it’s because your fat is turning into muscle and muscle weighs more than fat. That is wrong…fat doesn’t turn into muscle. What happens is that muscle burns fat.

Once you start strength training, give your body time to adjust because but you have to develop the muscle first before it will start burning fat. One good way to measure if your strength training plan is working is by measuring your inches lost rather than pounds lost on the scale.

You must also make the necessary adjustments to your diet, like decrease fat and simple carbohydrate intake. If you don’t, you will not lose fat. You’ll just be putting it on as fast as you are burning it.

There are a two ways to begin your strength training program. One way is to spend money with a gym membership or piece of equipment. The second way is to develop your own program using your body as resistance.

Whatever you decide, make sure you spend 30 minutes a week with strength training. Make sure you warm up your muscles and stretch before you begin your session. Focus on building your core muscles which include your big muscle groups like shoulders, chest, back, legs and abdominals. Don’t forget to stretch afterwards, too.
